Earning a degree in television writing from Columbia College Chicago, he entered the television industry, where he wrote and produced the Sunday morning news program This Week with Wanda Wells. After studying at the Conservative rabbinical school in Jerusalem and participating in an intensive experiential Jewish education program, he returned to the United States in 1998, enrolling at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, where he pursued a degree in Jewish education and rabbinic ordination.
